With the title of this post and all the fervour of surrounding the winner of The Great British Bake Off recently, you’d be forgiven in thinking this blog entry was all about food. Well, in a way it is.

I was delighted to receive an invitation this week to an exclusive dinner that the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) is hosting at the House of Lords “as a sign of appreciation to our Fellows”. It is going to be held in The Peer’s Dining Room and hosted by Baroness O’Cathain so it should be a very prestigious affair! (more…)

Outdoor Indoor…Gets Your Vote?

Like many people, I’ve been watching the run up to the General Election with great interest, not just through the eyes of a voter, but more with the scrutiny of a marketing professional.

There was a time when election campaigning was all about knocking on doors, kissing babies, and outdoor advertising. The focus was on communicating the manifesto with speed, putting over the ‘party line’ as succinctly as possible and hoping that wry smiles would win over the electorate.

Literature Literally Rocks

Autumn is well and truly here and I’m in a reflective mood. The summer has been a remarkably busy one with the festival season, in particular, dominating my time.

In my role as a music journalist I’ve been fortunate enough to cover quite a few events but one of the more unusual of these was one I worked in my PR role where literary and art, rather than music, took centre stage.

What a gauntlet to throw during the latest meeting with my client, Deep Red Magazine. I couldn’t argue with the logic….Apps are not only critical as a means of accessing online content for a publication but are also expected to be available, so I had only one option.

There was a time when there was no choice other than a pen and paper to record the details of an interview in a journalistic situation. The nuances and specifics of the exact conversation were at risk of inaccurate recording or mis-interpretation.

The welcome arrival of the analogue tape recorder brought accuracy and clarity for the written transcription of the interview but the reproduction of audio was a still out of reach in the general office. (more…)
