The One About The ‘Journalist’

I despair, I really do.

There are people walking amongst us that are not what they seem. They are masquerading as professional people in positions respected in society, like journalists and news reporters.

I read a story last month that made me ashamed to be part of the communications business. It was a news story that appeared in a well-respected online publication that delivers good quality journalism…usually…so its appearance took me by surprise.

The story consisted of a written report and an interview that, in my opinion, was possibly one of the worst pieces of journalism that I have experienced in a very long time.

CAT Gets Wild

I’m starting to feel a bit like Cheryl Cole.

No, there may not be much obvious resemblance, but I’m referring to the world of celebrity and finding myself, once again, the subject of an interview rather than playing the role of the interviewer.

A couple of weeks ago, DJ Wisecat invited me onto his show on Radio Gets Wild to chat about some of my experiences as a music journalist so we spent an afternoon exchanging stories and talking about the world of rock ‘n’ roll….

The Shoe Fits

My post Walking A Mile In Another’s Shoes, explained how I was interviewed recently by King’s Lynn Online. Here’s how it went…

Nothing Rivals being backstage

Last night I was reminded about the richness of my life.

As a PR who represents a client working in the heady world of rock ‘n’ roll and as a photo-journalist writing for music publications, I find myself often in the very privileged position of gaining access to areas of the music industry where angels may fear to tread.

Over the last decade, I’ve rubbed shoulders with famous musicians, interviewed dozens of artists and photographed and enjoyed hundreds of live performances. So, when I went along to Norwich’s UEA to cover the first night of an international tour for rockers Black Stone Cherry and Rival Sons, it was business as usual.

It was a star-studded night with all of rock’s royalty on parade at the Roundhouse, London, this week.

Cambridge Folk Festival Rocks New Book

For the best part of a year, I have been project managing the production and promotion of an tremendously exciting project – a new limited edition photographic book by internationally renowned rock photographer Nick Elliott.

TEN – A Decade In Images is a collection of the very best images Nick has captured at the Cambridge Folk Festival over the last ten years and, after much hard work liaising with the author, publisher and the festival organisers, I am delighted to announce that it is finally launched. (more…)
