On Air

There was a time when there was no choice other than a pen and paper to record the details of an interview in a journalistic situation. The nuances and specifics of the exact conversation were at risk of inaccurate recording or mis-interpretation.

The welcome arrival of the analogue tape recorder brought accuracy and clarity for the written transcription of the interview but the reproduction of audio was a still out of reach in the general office. (more…)

Over the course of the year, my thirst for creativity has been well and truly quenched with the production of a series of videos, The Collections, from iconic rock photographer, Nick Elliott.

It has been nothing short of a marketers dream to have been involved in, not one but four, fabulous videos which showcase a selection of Nick’s wonderful images against a backdrop of original music. (more…)

I have been managing the production of an ambitious project that is set to catapult Scottish band, The Marmalade, back into the limelight as part of a major re-branding exercise. (more…)

It’s been a whirlwind of a last few months preparing for the launch of the new contemporary, music and arts magazine, Deep Red, where I’m Senior Editor.

I’ve been overseeing the development of the online presence of the publication with its website design and build, appointment of an editorial team as well as the PR and media relations around it.

But, at last the launch day has arrived and Deep Red Magazine is opening its virtual pages for the first time today. (more…)

As the development of Deep Red Magazine continues, I am being kept extremely busy in my new role as Senior Editor.

In preparation for the publication’s launch in the Summer, I was invited onto 1800 Online to chat about what’s in store for the readers.

I joined Director of Photography, Nick Elliott, in an interview with radio presenter and podcaster, Alan Taylor-Shearer, and here’s a little of what we had to say about it all… (more…)

One of the greatest things about working in communications is when you are involved in a project that really excites your creativity.

Recently, I’ve been managing the production of a series of new promotional videos, licensing images and music as well as discussing concepts and editing ideas.

Entitled The Collections, the videos showcase a selection of my client, rock photographer Nick Elliott’s, wonderful images against a backdrop of original music courtesy of some specially invited artists. (more…)

Through The Maze

I have travelled a painful road of late.

I was at a crossroads at the end of the last year and seem to have spent an eternity going round in circles searching for the perfect solution.

Now, I think that I have finally navigated my way through the maze of confusion and can feel sunshine on my face.

My dilemma has centred around my online presence and how to leverage the plethora of social media tools, blogging platforms and websites as the powerful communications tools I know they are. (more…)

Rock, Art and Wine in The South of France

It’s not every day that you get an invite to the South of France but I have been lucky enough to secure one having represented the interests of rock photographer, Nick Elliott, in an exhibition on the coast.

After organising the delivery of Nick’s fine art work, preparing material for his personal appearances, arranging for him to sign a limited edition catalogue and publicising the event, I’m looking forward to visiting the playground of the rich and famous this May. (more…)

Recently, a television documentary was aired in which Pamela Stevenson interviewed celebrities about the negative effects of fame and how it influenced the way they treated others.

It made me think.

As readers of my previous blogs may be aware, I’ve been around the world of celebrity for many years in my role as a music PR and journalist and, as such, have been introduced to many musicians at various stages of their career and enjoying differing degrees of fame. (more…)

The Shoe Fits

My post Walking A Mile In Another’s Shoes, explained how I was interviewed recently by King’s Lynn Online. Here’s how it went…

We ask a local personality a set of probing questions …

Local PR Consultant Allison Thomas is another ‘woman of many hats’ – As well as her consultancy work she also teaches, and works as a photo-journalist in the world of music.

I shared a cold drink with her on a lovely sunny afternoon in the grounds of the Globe Hotel in King’s Lynn …

Nothing Rivals being backstage

Last night I was reminded about the richness of my life.

As a PR who represents a client working in the heady world of rock ‘n’ roll and as a photo-journalist writing for music publications, I find myself often in the very privileged position of gaining access to areas of the music industry where angels may fear to tread.

Over the last decade, I’ve rubbed shoulders with famous musicians, interviewed dozens of artists and photographed and enjoyed hundreds of live performances. So, when I went along to Norwich’s UEA to cover the first night of an international tour for rockers Black Stone Cherry and Rival Sons, it was business as usual.

Januarys are pretty unattractive.

At least, they usually are. Post-Christmas blues, gloomy cold weather and to make it worse, I’ve been keeping off the alcohol all month in an attempt to do a ‘dry January’.

But this year, there has been a little shot of excitement with the management of a shoot for rock photographer Nick Elliott on location with classic rockers Thin Lizzy. (more…)
